Supplements – Why You Likely Need Them

Do you need to take supplements? The answer isn’t always straightforward. In a perfect world, all the nutrients we need are readily available from a well-rounded diet. However, many other factors come into play. Simply put, today’s world isn’t always conducive to a diet that meets all your needs.

Here are some questions to ask to determine if supplementation is the right choice for you.

Where do you get your food?

Conventional farming practices have led to nutrient loss in many foods. Overfarming often reduces nutrients in soil, which in turn lowers the nutritional value of produce in vital areas like vitamins A and C. Similarly, animals raised in feedlots miss out on the varied diets that animals who graze in open spaces benefit from. One study found, for example, that grass-fed beef is higher in vitamins A and E and antioxidants than beef from feedlots. These trends mean that consumers have to consider their foods’ origins in order to get maximum nutritional value. However, because it’s not always possible – or affordable – to buy right from a farm, supplementation may be necessary.

Where do you live?

In much of North America, we don’t get enough sunshine to produce enough vitamin D. That’s why over 40% of people in the US are deficient in this crucial nutrient, with seniors being at particularly high risk. It can be difficult to get enough vitamin D through diet alone, so supplements are often necessary.

Do you eat a well-rounded diet?

Certain diets or dietary restrictions can leave us deficient in nutrients. Vegans, and vegetarians who don’t eat many eggs or dairy products, often require vitamin B12 supplements as it’s only available through animal sources and fortified grains. The consequences of B12 deficiency can be severe, including fatigue and depression, so it’s important to maintain healthy levels.

Similarly, people who aren’t able to consume dairy may not get enough calcium or vitamin D, necessary for strong bones, teeth and immune function. A gluten-free diet can also put people at risk for deficiencies in nutrients like folate, zinc, and magnesium.

Picky eaters? If you are not consuming enough fruits and vegetables you should ensure they are getting enough vitamin C as well. Studies show Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, can help support heart health and lower risk of heart disease, lower the risk of gout,  and improve the absorption of iron.

Do you take prescription medications or have a genetic/health condition?

Many health issues lead to difficulties absorbing nutrients, or raise the levels that you require to stay healthy. People with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s Disease have difficulty absorbing nutrients and often require supplements for optimum health. Some cancer patients benefit from supplementation, but it’s important to work with your healthcare team to determine your needs. As well, some autoimmune disorders require supplementation. People with pernicious anemia, for example, don’t produce enough intrinsic factor, a protein that helps absorb vitamin B12, so will need B12 supplements. Studies also show that people with heart disease benefit from omega-3 supplements.

It’s important to note that many of today’s commonly prescribed medications can also lead to vitamins and minerals being leached from the body.

This includes the birth control pill, which has been shown to deplete the body of B vitamins (riboflavin, B6, B12, and folic acid), vitamin C, magnesium, and zinc. Metformin, a common prescription for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes, has been shown to deplete Vitamin B12, folic acid and Coenzyme Q10.

Be sure to speak with a qualified healthcare practitioner when incorporating supplements along with your prescription medications to avoid negative interactions or side effects.

How is your energy and mood?

Feeling chronically tired or fuzzy-headed can be a sign that you’re deficient in at least one important nutrient. For example, Magnesium helps with over 300 processes in the human body, including muscle function and energy production. Proper levels of magnesium are necessary in order to metabolize the nutrients that you take in through food into energy. Research also indicates that there is a strong link between vitamin D deficiency and anxiety as well as depression. If you never feel fully rested or experience anxiety or depression, talk to a healthcare provider to rule out deficiencies and recommend the proper, quality supplementation – we can help!

How old are you?

As we age, our risk for nutritional deficiencies increases. That’s largely because of changes within your body. For example, stomach acid is needed to absorb vitamin B12 and iron, but we tend to produce less stomach acid with age.

Our bodies also become less efficient at absorbing Vitamin D and calcium, two nutrients essential for bone health. Plus, we tend to eat a bit less, since metabolism often slows with age (many people are also less active with age). In some seniors, the ability to recognize hunger cues starts to decline.

The need for supplements isn’t always connected to growing older, though. All women of childbearing age need to monitor their iron levels, since menstruation can lead to anemia. For women during pregnancy, folic acid and vitamin D among other nutrients, are recommended to help with a growing baby.

The Importance Of Smart Supplementation

Dietary supplements aren’t regulated the same way prescription medications are. Although supplementation has many benefits for many people, choosing to take a supplement requires some due diligence. It’s important to work with a healthcare provider to determine the right supplements and correct levels, and to rule out any contraindications. Even the best supplements can have negative impacts. St. John’s Wort, for example, is a popular supplement to treat depression, but it can interfere with your body’s ability to absorb some medications, including oral contraceptives.

It’s also important to make sure you take the best dose for you. When it comes to supplements, more is not always better. Fat-soluble vitamins like A and D can be toxic when taken in large amounts.

There’s also a wide range of quality when it comes to supplements. Because they’re not regulated as medications, the amounts of an ingredient can even vary within the same product. It’s important to purchase high-quality professional grade supplements from a trusted source.

Meeting your nutritional needs through a high-quality, well-rounded diet is the best approach, but for many of us, that’s simply not always possible. Supplements have been used to manage health conditions for many years. We can always look to nature to see if there is a healthy alternative to prescription medications to rebalance your system, replenishing your body and help to restore it back to a healthy state. Carefully chosen supplements can help us bridge any gaps on our road to wellness. If you’d like to talk about what supplements are best for you, give us a call.

Top 10 Superfoods for Longevity

The small choices we make every day add up to a lasting impact on our long-term health. One of the most striking examples of how good decisions lead to good outcomes is the role of our everyday food choices on longevity. Growing research points to the importance of diet on both quality of life and lifespan – it turns out there really is a fountain of youth, and it starts with what you eat!

We Are What We Eat

Western diets have increasingly become pro-inflammatory, calorie heavy and nutrient devoid. In fact, the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans defines the Standard American Diet (SAD) as being too low in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy oils, and too high in red meat, high-fat dairy products, processed and fast foods, refined carbohydrates, added sugars, salt, and calories. Eating a Standard American Diet is a root cause of the “diseases of civilization.” Diseases of civilization include heart disease, diabetes, cancer, infertility, mental health issues, and other metabolic diseases – which all impact a long and healthy life.

The nutrients found in the right foods can alter the aging process at a cellular level, reducing damage from oxidative stress. In other words, the superfoods below can actually impact the aging process! We need to prioritize the foods that give our bodies the energy and strength that it needs in order to fight off disease and other effects of aging.

The Blue Zones: Models for Healthy Aging

Scientists have studied the diets and lifestyle of people living in the “blue zones,” which are areas with exceptionally long average lifespans, including Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; and Ikaria, Greece. People in these areas share many common healthy lifestyle practices, like maintaining strong social connections and regular movement. They also share many dietary patterns, such as a focus on whole, natural and plant-based foods, and they avoid processed foods. The foods below appear often in research around the blue zones, and other studies show striking health benefits.

Top 10 Anti-Aging Superfoods

Let’s take a look at what studies today suggest are some of the top superfoods for longevity.

1 – Cruciferous vegetables

These flavorful veggies are high in fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins C, A, E, and K. Antioxidants help fight aging by curtailing damage from free radicals and reducing inflammation. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can also help you look younger, since it boosts collagen production, which in turn strengthens your skin’s elasticity.

Cruciferous vegetables include broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, turnips, and even radishes. Try stir frying some with some amino acids for flavor! Many are also good roasted – if you’ve never tried roasted radish before, it’s a great way to remove the bitter edge that characterizes raw radishes!

2 – Leafy green veggies

Leafy green vegetables are high in antioxidants, vitamin K, folate, fiber, and lutein, a nutrient that can help protect aging eyes. Studies have shown a diet with a lot of leafy greens helps protect against cognitive decline and heart disease. (Note that people who have to take anticoagulants should talk to their healthcare professional about eating foods high in vitamin K.)

Aim for a variety of leafy greens, and think outside the salad bowl: sauteed turnip greens, and baked kale chips are a nice change of pace. Generally speaking, aim for darker colors – spinach over iceberg lettuce in a salad, for example.

3 – Nuts and seeds

Don’t avoid nuts for fear of their calorie content. One study found that people with a diet high in nuts were 20% more likely to have a longer lifespan than those who didn’t consume them. Another found that people following a Mediterranean diet had improved cholesterol levels with increased nut intake. Walnuts, pistachios, and almonds are all particularly beneficial, and versatile. Add some salads and baking, or just snack! Nuts are a good source of fiber, antioxidants, and healthy fats.

Flax seeds, chia seeds, and hemp seeds are excellent sources of protein and omega-3, and have been linked to reduced cholesterol levels and lower blood pressure. It’s easy to incorporate these powerhouses into your diet – just sprinkle some on your cereal and even yogurt, and incorporate seeds into salads and wherever possible.

4 – Berries

Brightly colored berries like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries are high in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C. Blueberries and strawberries can help fight insulin resistance and diabetes, and all berries are excellent substitutes for sweet desserts. Make sure to buy organic – all berries, strawberries in particular, can contain high levels of pesticides. Plus, organic tastes better!

5 – Beans and legumes

With their high amounts of fiber, beans keep your digestive system working in top shape and can help prevent colon and other digestive cancers. They’re also protective of heart health, and are associated with lower blood pressure. And, beans are a filling high protein source, which can help regulate blood sugar, and keep weight in check. In fact, one study linked bean consumption with a smaller waist circumference.

Beans are an excellent addition to soups, salads and stews. If you’re a meat eater, try adding some to recipes with ground beef, like meatballs, to add extra fiber and vitamins.

6 – Mushrooms

Mushrooms are high in B vitamins and potassium, and therefore good for your heart. They’re a good source of selenium, a mineral that acts as a powerful antioxidant.

They’re also very versatile, and can be enjoyed raw, grilled, or sauteed. Try marinating mushrooms on a skewer before barbecuing, or use a marinated portobello mushroom as a healthy burger substitute.

Recently, functional mushrooms have been taking center stage in the mainstream health and wellness space. Functional mushrooms include chaga, lion’s mane and cordyceps among others and are considered adaptogens for their supportive role in the body’s natural adaptation. Typically found in supplement form, functional mushrooms can be a great addition to your routine to help manage stress, improve focus and more. Be sure to speak with a qualified healthcare practitioner to see if these are right for you!

7 – Alliums like onions and garlic

These aren’t just flavor enhancers. Allium vegetables include onions, garlic, leeks, and shallots. Alliums have antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, which are good for heart health and cancer prevention. Research suggests onions can even improve bone health. Some people have unpleasant digestive issues with onions, so some trial and error may be necessary, but it’s easy to add more sauteed or raw onions to many dishes.

8 – Tomatoes

In addition to high levels of insoluble fiber, vitamin C, and potassium, tomatoes are an excellent source of the antioxidant lycopene, which is associated with a lower risk of heart attacks and strokes. It’s also thought to lower rates of cancer and cholesterol levels. Lycopene content in tomatoes increases with cooking, so tomato sauces are particularly good sources.

9 – Turmeric

The medicinal properties of this herb have been recognized for centuries, and recent studies back its effectiveness. The benefits of turmeric are largely derived from the compound curcumin, which is highly anti-inflammatory and beneficial to heart health. Some studies have found that it can help prevent cancer and reduce the symptoms of arthritis. It’s difficult to get therapeutic levels through diet alone (although it is delicious in a smoothie), so supplements may help. Interestingly, absorption is increased when consumed with black pepper – a combination that happens in many spicy dishes.

10 – Green tea

The many benefits of green tea make it one of the healthiest beverages you can consume. It’s high in antioxidants and polyphenols, which are compounds associated with cancer prevention. Matcha green tea is considered one of the healthiest varieties of green tea because the entire leaf is consumed by tea drinkers. Make sure you are buying organic to reduce pesticide exposure and to ensure you are reaping all the benefits of this superfood

Many experts believe that a healthy gut is the foundation for overall health, and that keeping your digestive system healthy should be a priority. However, maintaining a healthy gut can be more difficult than it seems due to the toxins we encounter every day. There are many things that can disrupt the delicate balance in your gut, and an imbalanced gut can have many different symptoms. Some of the most common symptoms of poor gut health can include food sensitivities, bloating, poor digestion, and much more. If gut health is not addressed and corrected, it can contribute to the development of certain health conditions over time. In this week’s episode, Is Your Gut Healthy? How to Tell, Janet and Dr. Stephen E. Lewis, D.C. discuss how our lifestyles affect gut health, how to know if you probably have a gut issue, and some tips on how to support a healthy gut.

Is Your Gut Healthy? How to Tell

00:00:01 – 00:05:09

Welcome to the green wisdom health podcast, with doctor Steven and Janet Lewis, where you will learn about natural solutions to common ailments. And now, here are your hosts doctor Stephen and Janet Lewis. Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of the green wisdom health show. I’m Janet Lewis. And I’m doctor Lewis. And today we are going to talk to you about your gut, which is one of my favorite subjects. It seems everything goes back to it. The name of this show is called is your gut, healthy, and how to tell. And then toward the end of the show, we’re going to tell you a very exciting story about one of our patients and his journey with us. So hang on tight, we got a lot to cover. But we wanted to get started with gut health because immune system is out of the gut and people don’t understand that. And I’m hoping doctor Lewis will explain to us how that’s possible and why it is compromised and what we can do about it. So doctor Lewis, would you tell us what you want us to know about is your gut healthy? Yeah, the quick answer is no it’s not. It’s just how unhealthy is it. The reason I pretty much say everybody has a gut problem is because we have horrible food. It’s not nutrient dense. And yes, food is important, but it’s not complete. So the presence of glyphosate and all these chemicals they put on it. One of the things that messes with gut health and causes leaky gut, and I’ll get into those symptoms in a minute. Is the presence of gluten, but gluten’s not the only bad protein that’s in wheat and barley and hops and rye. What is happening is we fertilize our crops with NPK. The plants say, oh my God, I’ve got this burst of energy. And since I have this, it’s like we’re feeding our food fast food when we’re feeding it NPK. And it grows at an accelerated rate, and it says, oh, I’ve got to put it out in protein, and people think protein is a good thing. Well, that protein is gluten and other bad proteins. And we have four to 40 times more gluten in our food. In our wheat, especially, than we did just a few short decades ago. Gluten is not a good thing, and we test people. It’s like, oh my God, no wonder you can’t get well. You got to cut this out. And it’s just a varying degrees, but we’re seeing more and more of it. Nailed, then we saw, say, 20 years ago, autoimmunity is getting to be it’s definitely on the rise in that starts into gut, even if the autoimmune disease is Hashimoto’s or Socrates or rheumatoid arthritis. So the excess gluten and glutenin and all kinds of other things. When it causes a leaky gut syndrome, what it really causes is what we say, microbial dysbiosis, which means you don’t have the right kind of bacteria yeast and fungus in your guts or the rat ratio. Things that cause leaky gut, we talked about gluten. That’s the main thing. Medications, people that do NSAIDs forever, and I just talked to real sweet men. It says, well, I’ve done all the acid reducers for many, many, many years. Well, that’s covering up the problem, but not really fixing it. Food allergies that goes back to gluten, but there’s a lot of other gluten problems caused by the leaky gut. Chemical sensitivity that’s getting much, much, much, well, it’s way more prevalent because we have more chemicals and the body’s getting in more than it can actually detox out. Celiac disease, I thought head gut cancer, it hurts the bad and did the testing. They said, no, you’re just one tiny step away from being celiac, which causes malabsorption. So Janet gives me gobs of stuff. We’ll talk about today. And it makes me better and leaky gut can help you lead to autoimmune digestive insufficiencies, poor diet. Nutritional deficiencies. And all those kind of things stress, which can be alcohol. It can be too much coffee. All kinds of things. But I’m trying not to tell them myself. Ice cream. Sugar. So the food allergies creates a vicious cycle. And so does the chemical sensitivities. When you start getting brain fog or I think the technical term for that is toxic and cephalopod or something like that. Well, the simple answer is just take some benfotiamine and get the percentage of candida way, way down from 85% down to under 15% in your gut.

00:05:11 – 00:10:03

Nutritional deficiencies we all have them. There’s no way in the world you can even just eat totally organic and have all the nutrition you need and organics is certainly an improvement, but it’s not complete. So if you’ve got that chronic fatigue syndrome, IBS, depression is depression is most of the time, it may not be caused by the gut, although it can be, but that is always part of the equation, is the gut and inflammation in chronic depression. And it’s interesting because when you go to the doctor, they give you something for depression. And doctors are wonderful. They do many lifesaving things, but they take the body apart and they take one area and they treat it. They never think about the body as a whole and why you’re having depression to start with so they give you this pill to cover that up. But you haven’t gotten to the root of it, which doctor Lewis is saying could possibly be your gut. And I wanted to talk a little bit about transit time with the colon because that’s one of my favorite things for you guys have already heard this story. You just have to sit through it. But we have, I had a lady that actually drove up to the office the other day. She drove by and was filming our office and it was almost 5 when we were getting ready to get off and I thought, this is, what is she doing? My curious self had to go outside and see what was up and she parked and she said, oh, somebody gave me your information. And I’m just filming your place here so that I can look it up online with a website and I’ll and I said, well, what’s going on? And she said, well, she said, I’m real bloated. I’m taking the skinny gut shots and I just got myself a vitamin D shot. And I just needed to know why I’m so bloated. And I can’t go to the bathroom. I said, well, what do you mean you can’t go to the bathroom? She goes, oh, I only go about every week and a half. And I said, okay, I said, well, you know, there’s things that help that. And she goes, oh no, I can’t take anything. I don’t digest it. And so I’m going to go every week and a half. How many meals a day do you eat? Oh, I have three. I said, oh, okay. I said, so if you had a train and it had three cars on it, and it went through a tunnel. And none of those trains came through the tunnel for a week and a half. What are they doing? And she said, well, I don’t know. I said, well, they’re obviously stuck in there and every meal you put behind it’s getting attached to that last car. So you’ve got a big clog, and she said, oh no, I do meant a musil. It helps me pass it. I said, yeah, you should look at the ingredients on that. And she said, well, what would you give me because I can’t digest? I said, no, I said it’s not, you can’t digest. You are, you have leaky gut, what doctor Lewis is talking about. I said, you’ve lost the ability for your colon to push those things through. And so we talked about digestive enzymes, and we talked about SBI support, which I’m going to get doctor Lewis to talk a little bit about because she really thought that was her best life, even though she felt horrible. She said, I just don’t know what to do. I said, well, I’m trying to give you answers at low cost lab work would really help because we could see why. Again, thyroid could be involved in some of that. But you know, there are so many people out there suffering thinking that’s a normal way to live. You should be going to the bathroom within 30 minutes to an hour after you eat. Every meal, not every other day, I’ve always done it all my life. That’s the way I’ve been all my life. I can’t tell you the times we’ve heard that. Well, I want to see people are arguing for their limitations. If you’re doing that, change the narrative because whatever you speak is what you’re calling in to existence. Right. And so I brought her in here. I stood in here with her 30 minutes. I tried to explain to her how everything was connected. She looked at me like I had three heads. And she kept arguing for the limitation. She said, I just don’t think I can swallow any of this because I don’t think I can get I can pass it. I said, well, we know you can’t pass it. I said, but you’ve got to start somewhere. So maybe she’ll come back, I don’t know, but that’s a lot of the population out there. That’s the knowledge they have of what’s supposed to happen with their bodies. So that’s why I want doctor Louis to give a little bit of hope here.

00:10:05 – 00:15:07

Can you fix leaky gut? Is that just like, I mean, it sounds so devastating ending, is it a sick body produced? Do you think a healthy body with God’s innate wisdom can fix it? Depending on how you answer that. And it’s amazing to me how many people sitting on a toilet having a bowel movement tell me, I think of your wife every time I have a bowel movement to train you coming through. Well, I bet that’s good. But then I’m gonna give them something else to think about. The perfect poop. Yeah. I bet you’ve never noticed. Oh, I actually had one lady who said, I will not look at my poop. I said, you don’t look at your poop? No, I don’t want to see it once it’s gone. It’s gone. Okay. Well, you might want to observe it to see some healthy indicators to look for. Because that’s actually a good indication of your intestinal health. The Bristol stool scale provides an easy visual reference. Some key things to look for are if the texture, the texture of it, should be smooth. Hard, lumpy poops often indicate constipation. If it looks like a baby Ruth, you’ve got a problem. If you’ve got time to read Facebook thoroughly or to read a magazine, you may have, you may be having issues, right? Yeah, pretty much. The shape, sausage shape is ideal. Overly liquid is typically a sign of diarrhea and pellet shapes or a sign of constipation. Actually, I think you get pellet shapes as you are getting the little pockets in the colon. That’s a possibility. It diverticulosis. Right. Buoyancy. You didn’t know you needed to see if they floated first, did you? Do they sink in the toilet? Poop, that floats, maybe may contain undigested fats. Isn’t this interesting? What about people don’t have a gallbladder? I wonder if they still have if it’s buoyant? Yeah, because it’s not digested in the fat. It’s the way if you’ve had your gallbladder out you well, we all need digestive enzymes to different degrees. But if you’ve had your gallbladder out, you definitely need our digestive essentials. And people had even had their tonsils out, have chronic fatigue. I know that soft subject, but you know how I am. Yeah, any straining or experiencing any pain during bowel movements should be investigated as should any blood. And I’ve had people come in and go have some blood in my stool. I’m like, it’s in your stool like it was dark or was it bright red? What’s bright red? Well, doctor Lewis always says that generally hemorrhoids. Or pals, but I always tell them, go see your GI doctor. They have some really good tests to see if you’re bleeding internally, especially if you’re anemic. So that’s just some stool health there for you that you did not know, or maybe did not want to know. Now that it’s all icky, we can get on something else, maybe. Constipation. And most of us are constipated because we’re too busy and we’ve taught at school. No, you can’t go till the as well. It’s usually constipation is a combination of a lot of things, but it’s the bad bugs that I talked about. And they put out bad toxins that actually intoxicate in almost pretty much paralyzed normal nerve to muscle function. Think vagus nerve. Food allergies, they inflamed the gut lining, peeps, I’m not inflamed. Well, if you’re overweight, you have a chronic inflammatory issue. Nutrient deficiencies, especially magnesium. I take magnesium citrate because it gathers water and helps the stool, but also take the magnesium ultra for other reasons. Processed overcooked fiber poor foods, so to speak is a bad thing. The candidate diet is really necessary for most people to get rid of candida. I think it’s easier to kill it, but easier to kill it than starve it out. But here’s the other thing. The guy that just told me, well, I’ve taken antacids for many, many years, and he said, but I said, well, that’s probably a big part of your problem, but what they don’t realize is the gastric reflux stuff it’s usually because there’s too much alkali from the pyloric sphincter not closing because alkaline comes up from the duodenum. It’s not usually too much as it is too little acid and too much alkali. And they don’t know that symptoms are the same. And if you get the chest pain and chest burning, you have to see a cardiologist for that, but people sometimes say, well, I feel nauseous. Well, there can be a lot of reasons for that. Use this lack of digestive enzymes, and maybe probably food allergies. But especially pregnant women, when they start having the pregnancy, it’s almost always a lack of be 6.

00:15:08 – 00:20:03

Now it needs to be a good B 6. We have the activated P 5 P and most women say, oh my God, my nauseousness is gone. So you don’t have to suffer through pregnancy for that. I wish I would have known that many years ago before I was in nutrition. There’s so many women that need to know that about not having to be nauseous during pregnancy. That is like the flu that doesn’t stop for three months. So B vitamins, that what you’re saying for that? Yeah, goodbye. I’ll take the PPP, but for other reasons, but it’s always good to start with a good multivitamin. I think it’s better to be well rounded. So we’re going to move from stool since we don’t want to talk about that anymore. How about we move to gas? Gas good, maybe not good. Depends on what you read on Facebook, but that’s actually a sign that you may have something going on. Miss in your gut. A little bit of gas is not a bad thing. But yeah, if you have a lot of gas, it could be undigested, proteins, undigested, a battle between the candida and the good bacteria. Right. Black beans. You can help reduce your gassiness by chewing your food slowly and thoroughly. Doctor Lewis and I are usually the last people at a table when we go to when we eat with any of the reps that come to see us learning. I don’t know why. We were so slow. I think we’ve just read so much stuff. It’s just like we want to make sure we’re digesting our food people in hail food. Maybe they’re on a time crunch. Maybe three times faster than we do. You need to make sure you’re slowing down and chewing thoroughly because the more you break down food in the mouth that easier it is to further digest. You need to keep a food diary to identify triggers. Common culprits include legumes and dairy products. Well, that’s the truth. Yeah, and you know, I love the research part, but if you do prolong cow’s milk, it actually challenges the intestinal permeability, which you have to counteract by lactobacillus from journal of gastroenterology. Bugs in the gut, breaking barriers to understanding, you know? Try to take a short walk after a large meal since movement helps stimulate Paris. I remember when I said, I think it was the last podcast that if you exercise and you feel better, it’s usually a low thyroid, if you exercise and feel tired, it’s adrenal issues. So keep that in the back of your head too. Limit your consumption of carbonated drinks. Because that’ll make you gassy. And you know, I was reading something yesterday in a book that I have always thought was kind of more fluff and smoke and mirrors and BS than most of them goes just because it’s in a book that might get true. And it was talking about a high carbohydrate diet was the best for you. It’s like, well, that’s what’s made us all fat and metabolic syndrome and diabetic. And cholesterol too high and the ratios are wrong is the high carbohydrates. So, and I’m more of a keto paleo primal, but that’s not even good for everybody. The point is, it’s not one size fits all. Now, I do lean a little bit toward keto and staying away from the carbs and the sugars. But you have to kind of tone that with what works best for you. And then they say, well, gee, read that book. Eat route for your blood type. Yeah, I read it. I think it’s about 10% true. But we have digestive enzymes that are more geared toward how you ate. Digestive enzymes help the gassiness situation as well, right? Well, especially our chewable digestive enzymes, essentials V, which stands for more vegetables or vegetarian because it has the different things to break down the cell walls of the fruits and vegetables. Most tastes good, I can even get our 8 year old granddaughter to take those. She didn’t believe me. I broke them out at lunch one day. She goes, what are you doing, Nina? I said, I’m getting ready to take my enzymes before my meal. She goes, I want to try one. I said, okay, so I gave everyone she goes, she tells like a piece of candy, ’cause they’re sweet. They taste really good. Probiotics, don’t probiotics also help gassy situations. Yeah, it really does. And let’s get a little deep for just a second. The inflamed intestines causes something called cytokines or cytokines. It’s a chemical associated with inflammation. And it’s not a bad thing, but when you get a prolonged cytokine storm, that’s what they’re seeing in COVID.

00:20:03 – 00:25:07

That’s what they see in cancer. You have to have a way to decrease these cytokines. And by doing that, and the interleukins also, which is inflammatory chemicals, but gut bacteria can induce or repress depending on what type of gut bacteria the P450 pathway of liberty classification, which we talked about with Casey one time. So yes, a good probiotics decrease all of that and causes less fermentation so therefore less gas. So if your husband traps you under the sheet because he thinks it’s funny, he’s passing gas just giving digestive enzymes, which leads me to another question. Janet, do you give me digestive enzymes? Because you love me and keep me healthy or just protecting yourself from gas. I plead the 5th. Oh, and we’re going to change the subject here a little bit and get back to the products that we’d use for this, but we just have to tell you the wonderful story we just had that came in our office. It was this is literally why we do this. Every day, you know, there’s so many people out there that are lives if they just had a little bit of help could be changed forever. We just had a man that’s coming here. I guess he’s known as now for. I don’t know how long doctor Lewis has been practicing, but a very long time when he was doing chiropractic care. And the man came in 5, 6 years ago, and he said my kidneys are failing. And he said, I don’t know what to do. And we put him on some products to help to help strengthen them to give them what they needed trying to help him through that process. And to lower the blood pressure and I’ve always told him you can do it medically, you can do it naturally by cleaning up your diet and putting in some day drinks, but you’ve got to get that blood pressure down because it will kill your kidneys. And that is what happened. He had high blood pressure for a very long time. Don’t ignore it, man. Yeah. And he took a few things, and then you wouldn’t see him again for a little while. He just came in here, well, let me back up about three years ago or so. That probably went on for a few years. And he’d take a few things, still back and forth, about three years, so he came in here and he said, well, if I don’t get this really under control, I’m gonna die. My kidneys are shutting down. You heard that 15 years ago. Why did you ignore it? Because he waited for the car to be on fire first. So his car is on fire. So he came in here. We put him on a bunch of things, doctor was saying him at that point. He was going back and forth. Every time we saw him, he looked more and more gaunt. But he consistently at that point stayed on the products we gave him. And I can’t tell you that lab every time it starts really dipping. I’m like, man, you’re real close to needing a kidney transplant or dialysis. And he’s like, nope, didn’t dialysis because I understand dialysis is very painful. I hope it’s something I never have to experience. But we managed through the supplementation and the lab work to keep him just high enough that he didn’t have to have dialysis. Keep in mind, this is not in replacement of medical care. Medical care in conjunction with that, you can live a healthier happier life and still hang around for your kids and grandkids. He just came in here today and he got a kidney. He told me he went on the transplant list in September. They called him in November. It was the day before deer hunting season. He had already gone the day before to pick out the deer. He wanted. So he was sure he was going to get to shoot it. That was in Coleman, Texas. You don’t tie them steer to a tree. They still free. Range? He said that they called him the night before the season opened. And he said you should have seen how fast I drove to Dallas. He said, I was on the tollway. He said, you know, you’re supposed to have two people in the car. All he had one didn’t care. They sent me a ticket. He said, I was going for my kidney. And he got one from a 19 year old kid. We had not seen him since he got the transplant in November. And like I said, he just came in today and he wanted to thank us for all the help we gave him to not go on dialysis. So he thanked us for not letting him die. And I said, well you know that’s God that we just kind of helped support what needed to be there to try to make it through. We didn’t know how it was going to turn out. He goes, I don’t know why I’m still here. He said, but I’m beginning to gain weight again. He goes, I’m back to feeling like myself. And he said, I even had a bottle of y’all’s vitamins in the hospital and he said, I had him there and the doctor told me not to take those because they were too strong for me.

00:25:08 – 00:30:00

And he said, I’ve been taking these all along, and he said they said they were too strong and he would just peel them out. And doctor Luis always has a great story to go for that peeing it out thing. Which is eating good steak. Well, will because I think God’s a lot smarter than we are. So I was on his podcast as a guest 250,000 listeners. And he says, it just makes expensive urine. So I just had a $42 rib. I did not create expensive excrement, and I said, no, that was reputed 75 years ago, but it’s amazing how much distortion will kind of hang around. Your body with the wisdom of God knows what to take. And yes, we excrete it out once it’s no longer needed or no longer utilized, but you have to put it in there because you have impaired absorption because of these gut problems that we talk about. Right. And so in James knew that because he’d been doing both things, you know, for a long time, so he knew to take that with a grain of salt. He said he got back out. He ran out of the vitamins. And he said, I noticed that my fingernails were not growing back the way they should be. They were very brittle. And fingernails always linked to kidneys as well. And so he said, I came down. He said y’all weren’t here that day. He said I came down, got another bottle of vitamins, and he said, my fingernails are growing back just fine now. So he came in here to give us a hug today to thank us. Well, we gave him one. Yeah, we wanted it or not. We stole it. We stole this hug. Because 5 years, we’ve been going through this. So that’s what makes what we do, why we come to work. But you’ve got to keep in mind, even supplementation, even if you have good ones and there’s a whole lot of not so good ones mediocre ones out there. If you’ve had a transplant, you have to be very careful because you don’t want to boost your immune system at that point and reject the organ. So you have to use these things very wisely. Yeah, you have to get help. From a professional that can help you with it. And speaking of helping, would you go or a little bit a couple of the products that would repair or help leaky gut? I’m especially interested in you talking about SBI of support because people don’t know what that is, but I was in my general lame understanding of it. It’s like putting we always say it’s kind of like putting silly putty in the holes of the guts. Because she says it smells like what? It smells like it smells like play doh. Play doh, the play doh used to play with as a kid and it gets sticky kind of like that. I didn’t hate to ask, I don’t know. I didn’t eat it. I’m just saying it smells that way. The SBI has a serum derived bovine immunoglobulin concentrate. And it gives you the immunoglobulin gs. So immunoglobulin think immune health because as I said earlier, autoimmunity is definitely on the rise. And there’s a link between autoimmunity and intestinal permeability. So since this leaky gut seems to be so prevalent and the gut barrier has to be fueled for lack of a better term to help seal it in the probiotics, which I hope I got a chance to get back to that. But the SBI health has everything to do with good health and I tell my patients when I get a scoop every day and Janice says he don’t know what he gets. I give him two scoops and his drink. And then one thing I really, really, really, really like is GI support. What that does is D glycerides licorice root. It’s aloe Vera leaf gel extract. Glutamine. Now glutamine is kind of a fuel for the cells of the small intestine and it helps the replication of good cells and tissue repair starting in the guts, but then that goes through the body basically. It’s a powder. It tastes fine. And then it’s got the in acetyl glucosamine, which is a really, really good thing. I like it. I take a lot of it. So and while you’re taking these things and people are talking about fasting, you want to take the right thing, even when you’re fast, there’s a way to speed up the gut healing and you’ve got to do the probiotics because this is going to be quick. Allergies and eczema can be caused by an imbalance of flora journal from analysts of medicine, asthma associated with colitis, healthy gut bacteria is used to treat skin infections, folks. That’s from journal of science and journal plants.

00:30:02 – 00:33:05

Probiotics are good for systemic diseases, such as gastrointestinal urinary colon, cancer, cholesterol, et cetera, et cetera. And it goes into the gluten and wait intolerance. The best thing you can do is just cut out weight. That’s the number one bad actor. In our poor health. Well, I hope you guys learned something you’ve learned about bowel movements, stool size, what they’re supposed to do. And if it’s a baby Ruth, something’s not right. So with that, would you like to leave us with any closing words or opinions of yours today, which you have many? Yeah. You know, I’m getting more and more opinionated and I should apologize, but I tell people, it’s not going to get any better because I’m getting a little bit older, but 30 years I’ll be out, but there’s a lot of people out there that need to be healed. And I get so many referrals. Thank you, thank you. Thank you. Because you’re helping people get well. And whatever you do to help somebody get better, it’s going to come back. And be a blessing for you in ways that you may not necessarily recognize, but in this time of stress, strife and struggles, we really need to be kinder. But be more urgent in getting well. Don’t wait to get well at 11 o’clock and diet ten 30. You matter, you’re here for a reason. And that’s to uplift and bless other people. So if you want to get started or need to do it again and it’s been a long time, go to our website, green wisdom, health dot com, click on the health survey tab that will allow you to take a little short quiz and it will suggest to you the appropriate lab panel. And we are here to help you with all of your weight loss and thyroid questions I know that you have. This week’s episode is called the thyroid connection to weight loss because many of you out there are struggling with weight loss and it is the season for bikinis. So we want to make sure that we’re able to get into those and look really good. So we’re going to tell you today some shortcuts or maybe some long cuts to getting that body back the way you want it to be and what the thyroid has to do with it because we all know that thyroid’s got everything to do with weight loss, doesn’t it, doctor Lewis? I don’t know about everything, but it’s certainly a huge, huge player there. So what is it you would like for us to learn today about thyroid? What does it got to do with you losing weight? Well, first of all, it usually is the thyroid and the statistics vary depending on the book you read or the research or the doctor you talk to, but I’d say about two out of three or three out of four people. That we do are low cost lab work on probably three, four, 7 have a suboptimal thyroid. Well, wait a minute. When you say low cost lab work, why do you run lab work? I mean, don’t the doctor do it. I mean, haven’t they been told they’re okay? Why do you do that? I’m just asking. Okay. Asking for a friend. Well, you know, I love the whole profession, the medical profession and chiropractic may be in a chiropractor. Of course, I look at it more holistically, structure function, nerf supply. But let me just tell you a story. There’s this really wonderful medical doctor that came in. He wanted to talk to us and Janet and I was off gallivanting around the country like we do a lot in the RV. And Janet, my sweet darling a little wife says, I do not want to talk to this MD. I said, I’ll talk to him. He’s an ass guy. I’ve never met an MD that wasn’t a nice person and have good intentions. And so he came in, he was a real quiet shy, soft spoken, very, very nice man. He says, you’re getting our patients well, and we don’t understand how you’re doing it. And I said, well, God’s a lot smarter than you and me. And we’re trying to help people. We’re just doing it differently. I just throw in nutrients that your body uses for the greater good. And he says, okay. And so I asked Janet to go get this particular lab. Once she got here, my sweet wife said she didn’t want to talk to the sim day, but I said, now you’re here, what do you tell the stock for about thyroid? And she gave me the look. I have no idea what the look is. You eyes out there, have no idea what the look is. In any way, this light he had a three point something on her TSH. And that’s what most people run TSH, which is not thyroid. That is the thyroid stimulating hormone. It comes out of the pituitary in the brain. And it was a three. And the range goes up to 4.5 in Janice says, what would you do with this person? He says nothing. She’s my patient, too. I don’t do anything. It’s well within the range it’s normal. And I’m thinking it’s not normal, it’s common. There is a difference. And Janet says, well, if it doesn’t go down around 1.5, that means the brain is putting out the signal and the thyroid’s not using it. And she will be overweight. Can’t lose weight and be thyroid crazy. And he said, I’m noticing my practice, it has to be about a two or below before people can begin to lose weight. And then it said, what would you do with this T three uptake, which was the 27? He’s just not, and that’s within the range from 24 to 35. And Janice says, well, that’s usually environmental estrogen mimickers, which we’ll get to the toxins in why that stops or slows our weight loss. She says, why is it it’s okay down to 24, but holy Jesus, you’ve got to treat it at a 23. She said it’s just degrees of stress caused by estrogen mimicking plastics pesticides fire retardants et cetera. And if she’s got this, this light will be thyroid crazy. You can’t live whether she’ll be fat. Can’t lose weight and she’ll have no desire for sex and a guy wonderful man. Uncross his arms took his glasses off leaned across the desk and looked at Janet in the eyes and said, can I bring my wife in to see you? Yeah, and you know the reason I knew that was a problem is because of my own personal health issues of them telling me that my thyroid was right from a hysterectomy, they looked at it and said, oh no, your thyroid looks great. I thought then why am I a size 12 and I’ve gone from a 130 pounds up to a 149 in like 6 months.

00:05:06 – 00:10:05

I thought there is something not right here, but that’s fine, which led me on a journey to figure out why. And like doctor Lewis said the different parts of the thyroid, the TSH is just your brain getting the signal. Yes, getting a signal. That’s not your true thyroid function. My thyroid function, which probably don’t mean much to you right now, but when I had my lab run, it was a 2.8 free T three. It looks okay. That looks in the normal range, but I was huge at that point. Optimizing it to over three caused me to go back down to a size 6 8 and back to my 130 pound weight. So that is a huge difference in on a marker that doesn’t look that big. And I’m confused here because I used to tell people Janice 5 foot 432 pounds. She says, Steven, I’m not that fat. Of course. A lot of pounds. Might have been when she was thyroid crazy, but I would never say that. And that’s what it causes. It causes things like slow metabolism, heart functions, not right. So you have heart palpitations. Poor digestion. So you have more constipation issues. You have a lack of energy. And so many people are suffering with that right now. It’s like, no energy. Their appetite is not good. But there’s another part to that though. It usually if you feel better after exercise, you probably have a low thyroid. Well, you’d have said low energy. What’s the other part of that? The other party is if you feel worse after exercise, that’s usually a sign of your adrenals have in poor function. How interesting you have to nourish incorrect adrenal function before taking on your thyroid healing because the thyroid will not heal until you have your adrenals working. They run off of each other. They can’t HPA axis. Thyroid pituitary. You know, it’s cool. That’s why I like it. That’s why I like listening, aka being a part of the show. Because I learned things from you that I’ve never heard before. It’s like this little dictionary of knowledge. It’s usually slamming Perkins. I’ve never heard that about the exercise thing about what is it again if you want to exercise? Well, if you feel better after exercising, you probably have a low thyroid. But if you feel worse, it’s probably you need to heal your adrenals and the problem is here’s the issue folks. If you want to get well, you have to commit time to it because not everybody gets well because there are limitations, physiologically, there’s limitations to time. And you have to give your body time and people unfortunately, people quit way too soon. It usually takes a couple of years just to fix your adrenals because you have to get rid of a lot of the stressors, which can be mental that you create yourself, but it’s many, many times it’s mold, you’re don’t know you’re getting it. It’s the story we tell about us being crop dusted in Mississippi and Louisiana, two different times. Thyroid things that cause thyroid inflammation or the cytokines that create that in an unrelenting cytokine storm can lead to cancer and a lot of other things. The best thing you can do for your thyroids give up grains and people say, I had a friend says, well, you United States Department of Agriculture says you should eat 6 to 11. Servings of grain per day. Of course, he was about a hundred pounds more than me. Ten years younger and sitting on a heart attack. And I said, when you had your FA calf. What did you do to make it fat? He said it grain, he’s oh crap, you call me. And I totally message you’re sitting on a heart attack. Now keep in mind, I’m not an MD, but about three weeks later, when he had his heart attack, which he refuses to say heart attack, he causes instant his girlfriend says please don’t tell him I told you so. And I said, you know, I’m a rub his nose in it. Grain grain grain is not good for you. Those books have been written and you have to get rid of grain. There’s no such thing as almost gluten free. And I had a sweet darling lady say, well, you can get Ezekiel bread. It’s gluten free. No, I looked at him yesterday. They’re not gluten free. No, no. But I couldn’t tell her she’s a sweetheart. Processed junk food, which is most of us. And people, I have people say, well, I can’t lose weight, and I’m taking all your supplements. Well, you’ve got to change the way you eat. You have to change what you eat, you have to change how much you eat, you have to be realistic. And that’s why I quit friending patients on Facebook is because they would show me pictures of their cinnabon or their meals that they’re eating. And then they grab at me about not losing weight, and it’s like, you know, you eat 14 times more than I do. Artificial sweeteners and colors. People say, well, sweet, sweet darling lady down around Fortnite, so I just talked to her a couple of days ago.

00:10:06 – 00:15:02

She says, well, I’m taking this supplement and I’ll quit it if you want me to, which I love you, Melinda for being that way. But what’s your take and has aspartame or sucralose in it, which actually tricks the brain into depositing four times more fat than sugar and sugar is not good for you in high fructose corn syrup is horrible for you. Wait, wait, wait. You were talking so fast today. I know. So like, man, you’re putting out information here that I’m not absorbing well. What did you say about sucralose against fluid down the Texas way, please? Oh, you want me to talk like Sam Elliott, but my voice won’t go that low. Tell me about sucralose actually being worse for you than sugar. Oh, big time. It tricks your brain. It causes neuro excitatory hormones and it causes you to want more and more and more and more. And basically helps your forces or stimulates your body to put down four times more fat than sugar. And sugar, we, way too much here in America. Okay, so is that like diet drinks? The worst you can do if you’re going to drink a drink, drink the one with high fructose corn syrup, and that is not good for you. Interesting. All these people think they’re losing weight doing diet drinks and things with Superman. This is diet. You need to stay the heck away from it. And tap water contaminants. Hey folks, people say, but I’m drinking well water. I said, have you ever tested it? At one point we lived in a place had 300 foot whales and peeps. Do you drink the wealth of water? I said, not after it not until it goes through reverse osmosis. And I said, why? Because I’ve got a friend that’s a dairy farmer for miles away. I don’t know what he’s putting into water that’s coming to us. And that was another thing I learned from you, just this weekend. You talk about tap water. This is, you know, it don’t have anything to do with weight loss. But it does have to do with wildlife and tap water. I was buying this expensive sugar stuff to give our hummingbirds because they’re coming up now. And you go through it really fast when you get a lot of hummingbirds, we live on the like. And doctor Lewis said just by some sugar and put it in water and give it to them while I was reading the recipe because I’m going to be a CD I have to do it right. And it said. Will you marry me? That’s variable in. So I could handle. And it said to boil the water with the sugar, bowl the water, and then put the sugar in there, I guess, and let it dissolve, and I thought, oh my God, this is time consuming. Maybe I should just buy the expensive stuff. And doctor Liz said, why are you why are you bowling the water? And I said, does that too? He said, well, if you’re using tap water, because it’s even contaminating the hummingbirds. And people know that. So it kills them. And so he said, if you’ll just use reverse osmosis. And don’t use the one with the red, that’s not good for the hummingbirds. Yeah, and it’s like, well, even they tell you that, knowing it’s killing the birds, but we’re over here drinking that like it’s fine. Yeah, if you understood what fluoride did you revolt against the government, I’m not saying you should, but you would. Go ahead. Vegetable oil. Horribly horribly inflammatory. It causes the cells to become rigid and that’s why fish oil borage oil flaxseed oil. Some of the other ones. And it has to be a good quality. But they make the cells more flexible rather than the corn, canal is poison. That’s why fried foods are so bad for you. But the vegetable will cause your cell walls to be rigid and then you become insulin resistance. Now, there’s books written the race in your fats because you have insulin resistance. And I don’t mean to be offensive. By saying that word, but I’m here to help you. And if I can say something that will change your life and oh, thank you, folks. That’s been given us reviews on Google and the three that lined up to do videos and I think there’s three or four more comment. Brian was the first one to do it. Got a he was awesome. I loved him before, but then Allen from Maine. Oh my God, this guy’s incredible. And then we get Debbie from Midland, Texas. And that’s a long way from here. Debbie said, well, my first one is 14 minutes long, but I was telling stories about me and you growing up how you require the rascal. The best that didn’t make it all the way through. Yeah, she grew up with me and still trust me as a doctor. Thank you, Debbie. I love you dearly. But you would not believe what that is done for people to inspire them to get help because, you know, we tell people this all day long, but it’s like, oh yeah, yeah, you’re selling something. We’re selling good health. Yeah, but to have people that it’s changed their lives and they go, they’re kind enough to put that on Google for us. Or a video one coming from Eric down in Fortnite is Texas. And we got one coming from Brenda who’s here local.

00:15:02 – 00:20:00

And we’re talking about videos. Yeah, and it’s like, well, we have new people that are calling in now and they’re like, well, I’ve watched some of these videos, and that is so cool. So you are inspiring other people to get help and help, even if you can’t do it in your own family circle, which we all have problems with. I don’t care from Indiana, said she would do it too. And the thing is, she says, well, I’m telling everybody I can. I said, yeah, well, your influence and people you don’t even know. To get better to get healthier. We need to walk through this life together and be kind and be happy and lift each other up. And let people have help to the best degree they can because this is hard enough. And when you feel bad, you’re depressed, you don’t see the point. There is a point. I’m writing a new I said PowerPoint, but my preacher says that they don’t exist anymore, but I’m riding one of basically if you’re a Christian, why you should be healthier than the rest of the people, not that we can’t get sick too. And the thing is that we were offered to be a national platforms that’s plural platforms to give this talk. So we’ll see. Pray for him. Pray for him. Yeah, I got a rain in some of my thoughts. No, they have to be Christian thoughts. They get to make sure this what we call in or preacher because we’re not sure what you quote sometimes because it’s, I think it’s scripture, but it’s sometimes it’s job and sometimes it’s Shakespeare. Sometimes it’s a distorted scripture. It’s a Texas. But the point is that we should all help each other. So for those of you that’s helping us to help others by inspiring them, God bless you and keep you safe and healthy. And thank you for the maple syrup Allen from Maine. You’re awesome. Oh yeah, I’m excited. The candy. He said I could put it on blue bell. We’re only doing it in small portions. Other things are plasticizers that’s drinking from bottled water and it’s not that we don’t do that, but we, for the most part, just do reverse osmosis. Dairy, which is the casein, the protein and dairy soy and soybean foods that also includes the is this what stops thyroid? Yeah, cows is the cytokine storm. Undiagnosed infections. H pylori. Why would you have H pylori because you don’t have enough stomach acid? Why don’t you have enough stomach acid? Because they poo pooed salt years ago and you need the chloride to make hydrochloric acid. And if you have higher hydrochloric acid, even though you have the symptoms of it, you’re really almost always too low. But if the hydrochloric acid is higher, then you’re going to be able to kill H pylori disease and parasites and strap and all those can create cytokine storms in the thyroid. And he won’t be bloated. Let’s sign of H pylori that you’re completely bloated and you can’t go to the bathroom. You’re very constipated. And water hurts your stomach. If you drink water, and it hurts your stomach, you can always go to your MD and get the H pylori test, and there’s have drugs for that. We use supplements that according to the FDA, we can’t cure anything, but if you throw it in there, God can’t. What you’re saying, like increasing your hydrochloric acid, like we use hydrochloric acid on a lot of patients here. Yeah, digestive essentials and B ten hydrochloric acid. If it’s super low and you can see that on chloride on the lab. Speed your bowel movements up. Yep, and we’re going to get to that too. Other things. Other things that can hurt your thyroid and actually cause inability to lose weight is exercising vigorously. Oh no, you’re supposed to exercise. Yeah, but not bigger asleep because you don’t. Some people don’t give your body time to heal after breaking down that imbalanced hormones. I could go on and on and on and on and on about that. And that’s the indirect and disrupting estrogen mimicking plastics pesticides. And all that. And Janice said the other day, God, is there not a man left in the world, they’re all Sam Elliott, and there’s no more Clint Eastwood. There’s no more John Wang’s. I mean, they’re so rare. There’s not that much masculinity. Well, it’s because most people, men have low testosterone and that takes a long time to clean your body out so you can begin to make more of it. That’s true because we see on lab how low the testosterone is in young men and brandy that works for us here. She sees the lab as it comes through too, and then her grandfather sent his lab in and she goes, oh my gosh, his testosterone tie. She goes, why is his so high and no one else has high testosterone? I said, because of the age. Actually, the older man has higher testosterone. Yeah, but they usually have not enough free.

00:20:01 – 00:25:00

So that’s why we check that and check DHEA. We do a lot of checking, but people that smoke cigarettes, alcohol, especially in excess, fluoride messes with it. Most white breads, but no, that’s not true. Most bread, if it’s not gluten free, I would avoid it like crazy. So well, you know the reason they want bread to start with is usually because they’re full of yeast and they have leaky gut. Leaky gut, I was gonna get to that, which I got so many notes here, I won’t get to about 90% of it, but yeah, you’re absolutely right. But one of the things you should do and the saccharomyces bellardi, what is that? That is a good yeast that goes in. It does not colonize in your GI tract. It grabs it hugs, candida, bad bacteria, yeast fungus virus. Hugs it and when you have your bowel movement, as we increase balm motility, it carries out some of the things. This does interfere with weight loss. This does interfere with proper thyroid function. I’ve seen people that were dying from C diff infection. And again, I’m not saying any of this cures anything. I’m not going to go there, but I’ve put them on massive doses of saccharomyces polarity and within three or four days I said, oh my God, you saved my life. I said, now God, did you’re just giving him something to work with. And I get in trouble for saying God, but I guess I’m not going to stop. Well, that’s over or coming off an antibiotic over antibiotic use too, right? It’s got something to do with using saccharomyces. Yeah, and you know why I’m so smart about this because I had some bad antibiotics and I had to after a bad spider by well for 6 years I bled out a fingertips armpits and places I won’t talk about for 6 years and Janet and I got really good at this because it was either that or me croak and thank God Janet is a good nursemaid and very patient and nice to look at too. But the other thing we’re talking about bowel movements one of the things that absolutely most people could really really benefit from is increasing bowel motility. Well, a lot of people don’t understand why you’re talking about bowel motility. Folks, if you’re eating three meals a day, there should be three trains or bowel movements coming through. So if you had three trains that go through a tunnel, are you getting three that come out on the other side or are you getting one or are you getting one every four or 5 days or maybe all the trains don’t come through or the cars and you have slept behind? Well that’s where the digestive enzymes come in. Most people really, really I’m talking about the large majority should do the modal Sue. Then it has artichoke leaf extract in it. And this is a relatively mild product. But it stimulates bile secretion. Well, what’s it going to do? It’s going to help your liver work more effectively to get rid of the toxins and we had Casey on here one time talking about the two hydroxy four hydroxy 16 hydroxy detoxification pathway. So I won’t go into that. But it enhances the liver function. It helps restore gut motility and improved digestion. And the other thing it has is Ginger root. Let me talk about Ginger root for just a minute. I love Ginger root. And the Asian when I started using that thousands and thousands of years ago, it helps that inflammation cleanses the colon reduces spasms and cramps, stimulates circulation, strong antioxidant, and effective antimicrobial agent. Protects the liver, the stomach, useful for bowel disorders, circulatory problems, arthritis, fever, headache, hot flashes, and man, if you’re wife has a hot flash, don’t talk about it. You might be a flash in a pan if you do that. You sure might. You need to keep that air cold at night too. Indigestion. So that’s why I went after a meal most people of Asian descent will cut off a piece of Ginger and eat it. So the modal suit is a kick, but no tent, no pun intended thing to do. The saccharomyces Bologna. I take some pretty much every day. It’s really incredible. And that once you take away the burden of the excess toxins, your thyroid’s freed up to use the vitamins and minerals that it needs, which we sell a lot of what’s called thyroid essentials. But it’s got the AC and E, the good ones. It’s got the zinc. And yes, there’s plenty of research that says, even if you have Hashimoto’s, which is a thyroid autoimmune disease that up to 200 micrograms is safe. And I know there’s some controversy about that. I’ve had really, really good luck, even with Hashimoto’s putting people on this thyroid essentials they’ve done real good.

00:25:01 – 00:30:04

But zinc is the tracks vitamin, which means up to or tracks mineral, up to 20 times more absorbable. It’s got the selenium right about selenium. 8 pumpkin seeds for zinc and Brazil nuts for selenium and I’ll take zinc and selenium on top of that and my MD says my prostate the size of a 25 year old. And it’s got an acetylcysteine, tyrosine, ashwagandha, Google, resin, which really helps the cholesterol profile to maric root. Right. Is that something that someone can just take without lab? So that’s a safe product that they could take without having to have lab work. And it’s really important because these vitamins and minerals, they’re not just for thyroid, even though it’s kind of what it’s targeting things that the thyroid needs. I will tell you that one does give you energy though. You probably don’t want to take it at night, right? It gives you energy because you’re a high functioning. What is it? High functioning anxiety. I didn’t say it. All right. And it’s got two American it’s like, well, what’s turmeric got to do? Thyroid. You know, maybe in a chiropractor I used to put gobs of people along to marry because of the anti inflammatory effects on the musculoskeletal system, but other things it does. Turmeric fat free radicals. We need more of that. And protects the liver against different toxins, helps it detox much more quickly, inhibits platelet aggregation, which means you’re going to have a healthier cardiovascular system. It is anti inflammatory in the way that it decreases COX-2 enzyme. That’s a deep study. I won’t go there, but it’s really, really good for arthritic conditions. And I just want to start using it as a chiropractor. But it has shown to be stopped proliferation of rapidly dividing cancer cells. I’m not saying scaring cancer folks. But if you throw it in there, that’s why we change the world. Our car before it starts smoking. Janet’s got a really good analogy about that. You can read about it later. But it’s super, super good, even helps with psoriasis. And somewhat in Alzheimer’s and that’s why I take that every night. So I can have good cognitive brain function. Hopefully it’s working. It is so you talked about detox for weight loss. How do you detox for weight loss? Well, that’s different for, you know, we’ve talked about a lot of it. I used the environmental detox because it has the zealot clay, which bonds to a lot of different toxins. It has activated charcoal. The shallow sheet, which is probably, which is the good one, which is basically it’s full of acid and humic acid. And that’ll bind toxins like crazy. So pulling off the toxins and being free from things that make you crave bad stuff. Will help. And the saccharomyces does it too, because as it kills yeast, you’ll notice you don’t want bread as much, right? Yeah, bread, blue bell, Snickers, soft drinks, because it’s really that lowers your zinc and that messes with your taste. So you want to stimulate those taste buds and that’s why we mentioned aspartame and sucralose. And it really, really helps actually, I eat about 90% less sugar than I used to because I don’t have the yeast, but as I’ve told a lot of people, if you have too much yeast, you get brain fog because yeast will steal your thiamine or put out an enzyme to stop your thymine that you don’t get enough of anyway. And when I put people on things for that, they’ll call me within two days to two weeks and say, oh my God. My brain folks gone. And Anna women out there, you know, one of the first things they come in and tell me is that, oh my fingernails are cracking my skin is correct. My menstrual cycles are heavy or they’re real irregular. A lot of really heavy cycles. Some of those are anemic then, which compounds the problem. Or they’re bound, are brittle like they break bones easily. Those are things that you can tell all the outside, mostly. That you may have a problem with your thyroid, right? Yeah, and it takes time. There’s the thing, it can take two years to fix a fatigued adrenals. It takes time, folks. The people that win are the ones that don’t stop digging when there are three feet from gold. They keep going. And that’s why one of our podcasts. We said, for those that want to get well on the 11th hour, usually die at ten 30. You got to keep trying. Every day you’re up here, our job is to help you be healthy enough and have the energetic outlook on life so that you can feel good so that you can go get more accomplished. So you can be a better husband, father, grandfather, doctor, my case.

00:30:05 – 00:33:20

So you mean taking step for one week and then feeling good a few days and then you get a few days that are bad. You don’t stop. I filled up my trip last week. I’ll never have to fill it up again, huh? I know I have stupid analogies, but still it’s consistent action that always wins. Always. And, you know, doctor Liz talks about these tests. I’m telling you these tests are not something your doctor generally runs. They’re going to give you a TSH, I can’t tell you how many times we’ve seen a TSH. Would we run the lab work? And we do it across the United States, so it’s not like you have to come to Texas to do it. You not only get a TSH, you get the T three uptake, like he was talking about. You get 5 different parts of the thyroid, not just a TSH. And for those of you that have been told you may have Hashimoto’s or an autoimmune problem with your thyroid, we can add that thyroid peroxidase antibody on to the lab to see what it’s doing. And we actually have products that will help stabilize your immune system. And then from my perspective, your musculoskeletal system. Hey, this is a thing that holds you up and makes you able to move. There gets better. And cortisol is also a part of that test. So if you heard something in the podcast about exercise and you’re thinking, oh, I hadn’t heard about cortisol. That’s all a part of our test. So go to our website, green wisdom health dot com, click on the health survey, fill it out, it will recommend for you the correct lab panel most closely matched to what you filled out. And that way you don’t have to guess or just get some things and hope you feel better. And doctor Lewis, would you like to leave us with any words of wisdom for this week? My God, he’s out of loss. Now he’s not lost. He’s never had a loss. Here he comes. I’m never at a loss. There are some scripture that says, a wise man for sea danger and takes precautions. But a fool or a simpleton sees the danger and ignores it and suffers the consequences. We’re only here for a short time. I think it’s very important and we make it very where you feel good, where you have that deep restorative sleep where you wake up with twice as much energy as you had. When you wake up and you have the mental capacity, oh my God, my anxiety’s gone. I can go be a better mother or grandmother or better sister. This is not about physical health as much as it is about mental and spiritual health too because you can’t separate want from the other two. Yeah, make life easy again. That’s what it does when you have the right stuff. Yeah, if you focus on the good, it’s funny, the universe multiplies it. You guys have a blessed week. We’ll be here next time on the green wisdom health show. Once again, our show has come to an end, but your hope in your health is only beginning. If you or a loved one are in need of a different outcome and are waiting for a brighter future, take the first step and go to our website and fill out the health survey. Please don’t keep us a secret. If you know someone that could benefit from this podcast, please share the show with your friends and family. You are only one step away from a life worth living.
